Most businesses are worth less than they should be. Not because they're broken — because they're too dependent on you.

I work with business owners who are ready to move from "doing well" to genuinely scalable — building a business that grows in value, runs without you being in every decision, and is worth significantly more if you ever choose to sell, raise capital, or simply step back.

A group of five professionals in a business meeting in a modern office with large windows. One man is standing and talking, while the others are seated at a table, listening and smiling.

What "5–10X" actually means

It's not a slogan — it's a specific, well-established set of value drivers that determine what a business is actually worth, beyond its current profit:

  • Recurring revenue — how much of your income is predictable versus won fresh each month

  • Management depth — whether the business can run for a month, a quarter, a year without you personally holding it together

  • Systemisation — whether your processes live in documented systems or in your head and your best people's heads

  • Customer concentration — how exposed you are if your biggest client walked away tomorrow

  • Growth trajectory — whether there's a credible, demonstrated path to continued growth, not just a good current number

Two businesses with identical profit can be worth wildly different amounts depending on how they score across these drivers. That gap — between what a business earns and what it's actually worth — is where the 5–10X opportunity lives.

Business Optimisation: the work underneath the number

Value growth isn't a financial engineering exercise — it's the result of real operational change. This is where most of the actual work happens:

Systemising what's currently in your head. Documenting the processes, decisions, and judgment calls that currently only you (or one or two key people) can make — so the business becomes an asset, not a job.

Building management capacity. Developing the team and structure so the business can make good decisions without you in the room for every one of them.

Fixing the leaks. Most businesses lose meaningful margin to inefficiency that's invisible from the inside — pricing that hasn't kept pace, processes that duplicate effort, or customers that quietly cost more to serve than they're worth.

Diversifying risk. Reducing dependence on any single client, supplier, or revenue stream that could sink the business if it disappeared.

Who this is for

This work is for owners who:

  • Have a business that's already stable or growing — this isn't a rescue or startup service

  • Are willing to change how they personally work, not just how the business operates

  • Want the business to be worth more — whether the goal is an eventual sale, raising growth capital, or simply building something less dependent on them

  • Are thinking in years, not weeks — real value growth is a structured process, not a quick fix

This probably isn't the right fit if your business is currently in financial distress or facing insolvency — that's a different conversation, and a more urgent one. See Business Rescue & Turnarounds →

How an engagement works

1. Value Assessment. A structured look at where the business currently sits against the key value drivers, and a realistic view of the gap between current worth and potential worth.

2. Business Architecture - Growth & Scaling Plan. A prioritised roadmap — the specific operational, management, and systemisation changes that will move the needle, in the order that matters most for your business.

3. Funding requirement. Optimum Capital Structure and access to funding is one of the pillars of growth. Finding the right finance partner who contributes to the business while taking a long view to scale the business 5 x - 10X is critical

4. Implementation. Ongoing mentoring and coaching as the plan is put into practice — this is where most value-growth efforts actually fail elsewhere, because a plan without disciplined execution changes nothing.

5. Review & Compound. Regular reassessment against the value drivers, adjusting the plan as the business grows and new opportunities (or obstacles) appear.
